Our Commitment to Sustainability
This week, Rishi Sunak announced changes to some of the steps on the UK’s path to Net Zero, easing the timelines for a ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles, phasing out of fossil fuel boilers, and enforcing of energy efficiency targets for homes.
The climate crisis is the greatest threat facing the world in the 21st century. All parts of the UK economy have a role to play in addressing climate change: taking part in mitigating the impacts of climate change; adapting to a changing environment; and realising the financial and social co-benefits of operating more sustainably.
The UK’s public services are at the heart of the UK’s response to the climate crisis, with the opportunity to lead the way in decarbonising a significant contributor to our economy (public services currently equate to one-fifth of the output of the UK economy), including developing low-carbon estates and supply chains.
As The PSC exists to create lasting change through improving public services, sustainability is at the heart of our decision-making and the work we do. We are committed to playing our role in addressing the climate crisis and supporting our clients to play theirs. In 2021 we met our first sustainability goal to become a carbon negative organisation through a portfolio offsetting approach and are working hard to further reduce our environmental footprint. We remain committed to our other goals: to ensure 80% of our supplier and partner contracts are with organisations that have ambitious sustainability policies by 2025, and to expand the positive environmental impact of our work with clients and partners as we support clients across the public sector to chart their paths to Net Zero, embed sustainability as an Executive priority, and bring sustainability into major infrastructure projects.
At The PSC, we understand the urgency of addressing climate change and the importance of sustainable infrastructure. We offer expertise in healthcare, sustainability and infrastructure planning.
