David leads our work on integrated care and analytics, working with healthcare leaders to envisage, distil and deliver innovative service changes.
With broad expertise across finance, workforce and capital planning, David helps health economies and partnerships navigate their biggest challenges. His collaborative and calm approach has helped many organisation find their way through crises and he is sought out by leaders when they need a start on the toughest questions.
David enjoys deconstructing long term challenges in healthcare using data and fresh insights from other sectors and contexts. This interest has led him to both deep engagement with particular UK health systems and international work to push the boundaries of global best practice in health system improvement.
David’s health system improvement in the UK and internationally includes:
- Supporting a large Health and Care Partnership to develop a 5-year strategy, agreed by the clinical leaders across the footprint, to improve the health of the local population by integrating care and increasingly preventing rather than treating illness.
- Developing a Medium Term Financial Plan to achieve financial sustainability for a teaching hospital. The detailed insight on drivers of deficit has enabled subsequent efficiencies, contributing to the Trust successfully exiting financial special measures.
- Reducing inpatient length of stay of an Australian Local Health Network, training staff at all levels in a structured approach to problem solving, to embed continuous improvement in the organisation.
