Dr Rowan Wathes
Rowan leads our work transforming complex public service organisations, with a particular interest in healthcare transformation.
Building on her medical background as an oncology registrar, Rowan specialises in clinical strategy, pathway redesign and medical engagement. Her patient-centric, collaborative approach has enabled her to create a positive, can do culture in even the most challenged hospital trusts, and deliver lasting transformational change.
Rowan’s vocation in improving public services developed through her six years as a doctor and her current work with whole organisations. She is motivated by improving outcomes for patients by helping trust- and system-leaders solve their knottiest problems.
Rowan has successfully delivered significant improvements to the quality and performance of clinical services:
- Supporting a leading London teaching hospital to rapidly develop and implement their COVID-19 cancer recovery strategy
- Developing a widely commended transformation strategy for an internationally renowned NHS Foundation Trust with 16,000 staff and £1.5bn annual turnover, incorporating leading advances in digital technology and international and NHS best practice.
- Leading the end-to-end improvement of the urgent and emergency care pathway at a large acute trust with one of the busiest emergency departments in the UK, delivering a sustained 11% improvement in ED performance and being recognised as HSJ Consultancy Partnership of the Year 2019.
- Developing the acute clinical model for a large Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) covering a population of 1.45 million people.
