As we start to think about life and services after COVID-19, we list ten important questions for Integrated Care Systems to consider
The UK’s infection numbers appear to have reached a peak… for now. The path out – stabilising and returning to the full suite of NHS activities – must not be a simple return to the BAU of before. To deliver the quality patients deserve, systems must work together to balance demand and capacity. Working virtually where possible will remain the norm, and the rapid sharing of practice and knowledge will need to be maintained.
Until a vaccine and better treatments are widely available, the health system will sleep with one eye on the Reproduction Rate – R ticking up and down will trigger responses from the health service and wider society. We can prepare for this if we are willing to let go of our earlier baselines for planning and our old ways of thinking…
