Improving Cultures of Care to Transform Productivity and Safety

Quality transformation in mental health: what we’ve learned, 235 wards later.

Improving Cultures of Care to Transform Productivity and Safety

Meaningfully shifting culture to improve patient outcomes

We believe supporting staff to strengthen cultures of care is key to driving sustainable positive change for patients. We work with ward teams across healthcare organisations to do this through coaching, reflective practice and co-produced improvement, building the capability for staff and service users to build lasting change together.

92% of participants surveyed would recommend our ward team coaching to a colleague, and learned new knowledge they can apply to quality improvement in their organisation.

“I have learned so much from being part of this programme and there’s no way we can go back now from the progress we’ve made.”

Our Approach

We offer co-produced and relational support to help wards strengthen their own ability to improve cultures of care.

Our Approach

Our Offer

Our approach is tried and tested. It has been refined through delivery aross more than 50 mental health, learning disability and autism providers, and is now open to all healthcare organisations looking to drive positive change. We incorporate training, coaching and reflective practice, with our offer including the following support:

1. Launch Event

All participants will be invited to attend an online 90-min launch. Our launch event will explain more about how to prepare for the course, what to expect, and answer questions. The nominated staff from your ward are most welcome to attend, however if they can't make it we will provide a virtual recording of the meeting.

3. Training Programme

Your team representatives will be invited to a full-day, in-person training session with other teams taking part. We will discuss your goals in providing more holistic care, and how to lead cultural change with your team.

4. Project Coaching for Teams

Your team representatives will design and implement a cultural improvement project for your ward over 5 months. You will be supported via a monthly 1 hour coaching session co-faciliated by ImROC peer advisors.

5. Reflective Practice

One nominated member of your team will be invited to a 2-day online bespoke course in reflective practice. We will support your team to embed an effective regular reflective practice. Regular, high quality reflective practice provides a forum for all staff to safely share concerns and a greater sense as a group that they can deliver the changes they want to see.

6. Community of Practice

Your team representatives will be invited to 2x structured virtual discussions with groups of teams. Sessions will be co-run with people with lived experience. These communities of practice will be a space to identify your common challenges and solutions with other ward teams, allowing you to share learnings.

7. 1:1 Coaching Sessions

At any stage in the programme, anyone from your team representatives may ask to receive 1:1 support from our development coaches. These sessions will focus on your individual development of active listening and relational working skills and will be co-faciliated by ImROC peer advisors.
